Actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death has sparked a nepotism debate. It seems to have affected the social media following of several Bollywood celebrities. Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt and director Karan Johar have lost millions of fans on social media within four days.

Karan Johar’s Instagram account recently registered a drop in followers, from 11 million to 10.6 million. Alia Bhatt also recorded a decline in her fans on social media with her Instagram profile now having a following of 47.9 million from 48.4.

After the actor’s demise, KJo took to Instagram and wrote that he blamed himself for not being in touch with Sushant for the past year. Also, Alia posted a condolence message stating that the news came as a shock to her.

However, soon hate messages from fans started blaming them for nepotism and favoritism resulting in Sushant’s death.

Old clips surfaced showing bitterness towards Sushant

Moreover, many fans even dredged up old clips of Koffee with Karan episode featuring Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra where she mocked Sushant for being a newbie and a ‘serial actor’.

In another video, also from the same showAlia said: “Marry Ranbir (Kapoor), kill Sushant (Singh Rajput) and hook up with Ranveer (Singh)”.

Also, Alia reportedly walked out of Sushant’s film ‘Raabta’ screening for some unknown reason. Sushant wasn’t too pleased with her act.

Moreover, old videos of other Bollywood superstars’ disparaging comments about Sushant also did rounds on social media.

Fans expressed their outrage by sharing old videos where Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor, and Sonam Kapoor were seen mocking Sushant. Not to forget Sonam, Alia and Kareena remain a part of nepotism debate due to their Bollywood background.

On Karan’s showSonam was asked to rate him if he was ‘hot or not.’ To which she had expressed her ignorance by saying, “Huh? Hot I guess. I don’t know. I haven’t seen any of his films.”

Protests over nepotism in India

Sushant’s fans also protested against nepotism in Bollywood. They burnt effigies in Patna (Sushant’s home town] of powerful Bollywood actors and directors as a mark of protest against nepotism.

Effigies of Karan Johar, star kid Alia Bhatt and superstar Salman Khan were destroyed as fans believed they were indirectly instrumental in Sushant’s death. Protesters held placards slamming nepotism. They also carried a large garlanded portrait of Sushant.

Why did a young, successful celebrity end his life? Was he depressed? Was it because he was an outsider to the industry and had no Godfather in Bollywood? Following Sushant’s death, fans these answers to these questions. His family has already denied suicide claims after his tragic death.

Many Bollywood actors also condemned the industry for being insensitive towards its actors.
