Dua or supplication is one of the blessings of Almighty Allah from His unlimited and everlasting gifts. Mercifully, supplication has no specific terms and conditions except sincerity and purity. It is an expression of gratitude and thankfulness to Almighty Allah, every wise person knows the power of prayers. Almighty Allah is the best Listener. He knows without even saying that what we need as Holy Prophet (PBUH) said once that,
“Whenever a Muslim supplicates Allah, He accepts his supplication or averts any similar kind of trouble from him until he prays for something sinful or something that may break the ties of kinship.” Upon this, someone of the Companions said: “Then we shall supplicate plenty.” The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “Allah is more plentiful (in responding).” – Tirmidhi, Book 17, Hadith 37
But what are the things which can make a supplication accepted? What is the secret of dua that gets accepted? According to different hadiths and the Quranic verses, these things can make your dua accepted as soon as you get done with it.
1. Supplicate For Others
Holy Prophet (PBUH) said, “He who supplicates for his brother behind his back (in his absence), the Angel commissioned (for carrying supplication to his Lord) says: Amen, and it is for you also.” – Sahih Muslim Book 48, Hadith 120
2. Recite Duas Mentioned In Quran And Hadiths
There are numerous duas of prophets of Islam mentioned in the Holy Quran by Almighty Allah for us. We can simply recite them along with our daily prayers for acceptance of supplication.
3. Hope For Positive Results
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “You must not supplicate: ‘O Allah! forgive me if You wish; O Allah bestow mercy on me if You wish.’ But beg from Allah with certitude for no one has the power to compel Allah.” Sahih Bukhari, Book 18, Hadith 233
Another narration of Muslim is: “A supplication should be made in full confidence and one should persistently express his desire (before Allah) in his supplication, for no bounty is too great for Allah to bestow (upon his slaves).”
4. Show Gratitude
Allah states in the Quran that,
And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, ‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.’ – Surah Ibrahim, verse 7
5. Praise Allah At The Beginning Of Every Supplication
It has been narrated in a hadith that,
“The supplication of Prophet Yunus (A.S) when he supplicated, while in the belly of the whale was: ‘There is none worthy of worship except You, Glory to You, Indeed, I have been of the transgressors. (Lā ilāha illā anta subḥānaka innī kuntu minaẓ-ẓālimīn)’ So indeed, no Muslim man supplicates with it for anything, ever, except Allah responds to him.” – Jami at-Tirmidhi Book 48, Hadith 136
6. Pray During The Accepted Times
Holy Prophet (PBUH) told us a list of times on which a dua never get rejected by Almighty Allah. It includes the time of tahajjud, rain, travel, Hajj and many more.
7. Never Rely On Supplications Only, Be Proactive As Well
Supplicating isn’t enough, we have to make efforts and make duas both at a time. Depending on Almighty Allah for providing you everything while sitting at home can’t be possible. As Allah states in the Holy Quran that,
Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. – Surah Ra’ad, verse 11
May Allah accept our prayers and all the supplications, Ameen!
