A woman, presumed dead after a car accident, left mourners at her funeral shocked when she started banging on her coffin. Rosa Isabel Cespedes Callaca was mistakenly pronounced dead after being involved in a car crash in Peru, South America.
Rosa’s three nephews were left with serious injuries in the car crash, which also killed her brother-in-law. The nephews, aged 5, 11, and 17, are currently in critical condition and receiving treatment at the Lambayeque regional hospital.
On April 26, Rosa Callaca’s coffin was about to be lowered into the ground when she interrupted her own funeral. Her relatives were left shocked when they heard a noise coming from inside the coffin and immediately opened it.
Inside, they found Rosa, who had been presumed dead, very much alive and peering at them. She was seen sweating and looking at everyone, reported The Sun.
Juan Segundo Cajo, the cemetery caretaker said about the incident, “[She] opened her eyes and was sweating. I immediately went to my office and called the police”.
Rosa and the coffin were rushed to a nearby hospital in the back of a van where she was quickly hooked up to a life support system. Ashamed medics confirmed that she did have vital signs, but very low ones.
Died a few hours later
Her condition improved slightly once on the life support system, giving hope for a miracle. However, in the later part of the day, Rosa’s condition rapidly worsened and she died.
Videos shared on social media showed police officers carrying the coffin through a crowd to a pickup truck. The video also showed doctors standing over the open coffin with an unconscious Rose at their feet.
The family and relatives are accusing the medical team at the Lambayeque Regional Hospital, where she was first treated, of negligence. They suspect that she might have been in a coma after the accident that led the doctors to pronounce her dead. The police are currently investigating what happened at the Lambayeque Regional Hospital.
