Earlier this month, heart-stopping footage emerged of two women falling from a swing on a 6,300-foot cliff in Russia. In a dramatic turn of events, a small wooden platform located just beyond the cliff edge saved them from death.
The horrific incident occurred in the Sulak Valley in the Russian Republic of Dagestan. The terrifying moment was caught on camera, showing two women while taking a ride on the swing over Sulak Canyon, on the Caspian Sea, when one of its chains snapped.
As the swing seat shifted, it tipped over just as the two women were heading towards the cliff edge, ejecting them over the sheer cliff face. Luckily, their lives were saved by a small wooden platform just across from the edge, which prevented them from falling. Rather than dying, they were only injured by bruises and scratches, according to Dailymail UK. They were hauled back to safety by shocked relatives.
In the wake of the incident, local police started investigating the safety of several canyon swings located in Zubutli village. According to Dagestan’s Ministry of Tourism, the swing is not up to safety standards. This resulted in the two young women falling off the swing seat, the statement said.
Law enforcement and other services are already conducting relevant checks to ensure lives and health are not endangered. It is said that Sulak Gorge is deeper than the Grand Canyon in the United States, making it Europe’s deepest canyon. Footage of the heart-stopping incident has gone viral on social media.
