Ex-interim Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti joins PPP

On Monday, Sarfraz Bugti, who quit as temporary interior minister last week, joined the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). This was a surprise move.

There were earlier rumors in the mainstream media that Bugti had tendered his resignation so that he could run for office on the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) ticket in the upcoming general elections.

Addressing a PPP workers convention in Turbat – in the presence of PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and other leaders – the former security czar said: “Respected leader Asif Ali Zardari came to Turbat and directed me to join the PPP.”

During his speech, he also said that he was excited to be running for office on the PPP’s ticket.

There was a lot of worry that the general elections would be pushed back again, but they will happen on February 8, 2020. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) released the voting schedule on orders from the Supreme Court, which eased some of the worries.

While Zardari was in charge of Balochistan, Bugti thought that peace would be restored.

He asked the former president to build a modern hospital in Turbat like the one in Sukkur so that the people there could get better medical care.

“Will make the PPP a progressive party under your leadership,” he promised to Zardari.

The former home minister also said that the PPP is the party that would fight the story against Pakistan.

It is important to note that Bugti used to be a member of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) before he joined the PPP.
