‘People Said I Was Pregnant When I Put On Weight’ – Nargis Fakhri On Body Shaming

Nargis Fakhri On Body Shaming

Bollywood actor Nargis Fakhri recently revealed that even she has been victimized by social media bullying because of her appearance, highlighting the ill effects of anyone and everyone having access to celebrity profiles and being able to share their opinion in the passing.

The 42-year-old, who was last seen in the 2020 film Torbaaz, opened up about being body-shamed in a recent interview with Hindustan Times. “I definitely faced body shaming for a short time,” she was quoted by the outlet as saying.

Fakhri made known that there is always pressure to be a certain body type because people expect a “certain look or appearance” from those in the entertainment industry. The Main Tera Hero star further lamented how one can never be good enough because different people will always have varying points of view.

Emphasizing the absurd expectations people had from her, the actor stated that she was too thin when she first came to India. Due to this, everyone would ask her to gain weight. Having been naturally skinny, Fakhri still went on to gain 50 pounds, and rumors about her ‘pregnancy’ suddenly began doing the rounds.

Having lost confidence due to the trolling, the Main Tera Hero star recalled being hurt, asserting that none of it was funny for her. However, the Rockstar actor began working out to get back in shape again and managed to lose 40 pounds of the weight she had put on. “I realized it is my job to take care of myself,” she said.

Rumored maternity leave

Body appearance is a recurring topic that celebrities deal with and Fakhri was a victim of it when she took a three-year break after Azhar (2016) and returned to the big screen with Amavas (2019).

The rumor mills labeled this break a maternity leave. Several sources claimed that the actor was pregnant, when it was simply a case of weight gain, as she later revealed on Instagram, with before and after pictures.

“Living life in the public eye can be very difficult sometimes,” she wrote. “As much as it is a blessing, it also comes with its downside. Over the last 2 years, I’ve gained weight. On the left, I weighed 178 lbs and on the right, I was 129. I have since lost 20 lbs through making lifestyle changes.”

“If I can do it, so can you,” the actor added. “Nurture your mind, body, and soul with positive thoughts and healthy choices. I’m going to bring you on this journey of becoming the best version of myself again, and I want you to join me on this journey too.”

Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu, the Indian model who won the 70th Miss Universe crown in 2021, also recently opened up about her struggle with body-shaming.
