Zayn Malik, the British-Pakistani singer, and model Gigi Hadid have reportedly parted their ways after reports of him striking her mother went out. They got into an argument and he struck her.
PEOPLE magazine reported that according to multiple sources, the couple broke up after an argument the former One Direction member had with Gigi’s mother Yolanda Hadid. Meanwhile, other publications have published claims that Zayn Malik was striking Yolanda, mother of Gigi.
Malik posted a lengthy note on his Twitter in which he asked for privacy at this time for both him and his daughter Khai. Gigi and Malik have zealously guarded their daughter’s privacy and have never posted a picture showing her face online.
“As you all know I am a private person and I very much want to create a safe and private space for my daughter to grow up in,” he wrote. “A place where private family matters aren’t thrown on the world stage for all to poke and pick apart.”
“In an effort to protect that space for her I agreed to not contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner’s who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago,” he added. Malik did not name the said family member but soon after he posted the note, tabloids published claims that it was Yolanda.
‘This was and still should be a private matter’
“This was and still should be a private matter but it seems, for now, there is divisiveness and despite my efforts to restore us to a peaceful family environment that will allow me to co-parent my daughter in a manner which she deserves, this has been “leaked” to the press,” continued the singer.
“I am hopeful though for healing for all involved with the harsh words shared and more importantly, I remain vigilant to protect Khai and give her the privacy she deserves,” he wrote.
The wording of his note, however, led people to wonder whether he and Gigi had broken up.
“Gigi is solely focused on the best for Khai. She asks for privacy during this time,” Gigi’s representative told PEOPLE in a statement.
The exes share baby Khai, who’s now 13 months old. In September, the couple threw her a birthday bash — and several family members honored her with emotional tributes.
The couple first sparked romance rumors in November 2015 when they stepped out together at an American Music Awards afterparty. They have been dating on and off for years now.
