World Tallest Bike Unveiled; a Tale of Two Friends with an Enormous Dream

Plans made at the pub are dreams that never make their way. In the case of Nicolas Barrioz and David Peyrous from France impossible happened.

Five years ago, two friends at a bar betted to build the largest bicycle. A bike named “Star Bike” came into existence- a height of 7.77 meters, breaking the previous record by 36 cm. The bike made its way to the Guinness Book of World Records.

The pair spent five months in planning and five months in construction. The bicycle has two peddles and standard-size wheels. The bicycle has a long frame of alloy, supporting a chain of 16 meters.

The tires were provided by Michelin, free of cost. Michelin’s company headquarters in Clermont-Ferrand, the same city where the pair unveiled their bike.

The unveiling took place at the annual bicycle festival. David rode the bicycle for 100 meters. There was a wire attached for safety.

The safety of the bike revolved around its speed. Nicolas said, “It has to go at least 15-20km/h”.

Nicolas and David- aim to promote bicycles as an environmentally friendly way of transport. The story tells how big dreams only require commitment and passion; resources come secondary- with only €1000 and a tool kit.
