Winter vacations have been announced for schools, colleges, and universities in several provinces across Pakistan.
In Punjab, the Higher Education Department has declared that all public and private universities and colleges will remain closed from December 22, 2024, to January 5, 2025. Earlier, the Punjab government had also announced winter vacations for schools. According to Secretary of Schools Punjab, Khalid Nazir Wattoo, schools will observe holidays from December 20, 2024, to January 10, 2025.
The announcement follows directions from the Lahore High Court (LHC) to tackle the growing smog problem. Justice Shahid Karim ordered that schools must provide transport for students after the winter break. Schools that fail to follow these instructions could face closure. The court emphasized that no school should issue disclaimers to avoid responsibility for providing transportation.

In Balochistan, winter holidays have already started. Educational institutions in colder areas, including Quetta, will remain closed until February 28, 2025, while schools in warmer regions will observe a shorter break from January 1 to January 10, 2025.
These closures aim to ensure the safety and well-being of students during the harsh winter season.
