The US-Iran conflict might still be in swing, but an incident dealt a blow to Iran that is incomparable. General Qassem Soleimani’s death has wreaked havoc in the region. Ever since the USA initiated this new ‘Middle-East crisis’, over 250 innocent people have lost their lives. The Ukrainian plane shooting has become a huge issue.
When Iran retaliated by attack two US bases in Iraq, they did not know what would happen in the next few hours. Estranged and anxious by their own attack, Iran made a historical folly. In fear of instant retaliation from the US, Iran shot down a passenger plane traveling from Tehran to Kyiv, Ukraine. The plane was carrying over 100 foreigners when it was attacked by a surface-to-air missile, killing all 176 passengers. The US-Iran conflict has turned very strange.
Initially, Iran had denied the claims and stated that the Ukrainian plane downed because of an engine failure. However, through investigation, it was proven that a missile did hit the plane in mid-air, killing all the passengers instantly. Since then, Iran has accepted its mistake and vowed 100% accountability. They labeled it as a human error.
Today, Iran has announced several arrests in the matter. “Extensive investigations have taken place and some individuals are arrested,” said judiciary spokesperson Gholamhossein Esmaili. However, the spokesperson did not give a fair tally of how many people have been arrested.
Rouhani accepts Iran’s huge mistake over downing Ukrainian plane
Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has taken the matter in his own hands and has promised that justice will be done. Here’s what he had to say: “The judiciary should form a special court with a ranking judge and dozens of experts. This is not an ordinary case. The entire world will be watching this court. The responsibility falls on more than just one person. Those found guilty should be punished. There are others, too, and I want that this issue is expressed honestly.”
Moreover, Rouhani was happy that Iran accepted its mistake of downing the Ukrainian plane, labeling it as a ‘first good step’. Additionally, Iran is going through internal protests as well, where dozens of people have been killed. This mistake is being highlighted by the opposition and people who are not happy with Rouhani’s government.
On the other hand, the strict economic sanctions by the USA have tormented Iranians for a while now. These sanctions will only get tougher as stated by US President Donald Trump. As of today, one US dollar stands at a mammoth exchange of 42,000 Iranian riyals.
It seems that Iran has been cornered from all angles and they haven’t done much to help themselves. The popular vote was with Iran before they had downed the Ukranian plane. But now, even the neutrals are angry at Iran for this international tragedy of taking 176 lives.
