The 2025 Golden Globe Awards nominations have arrived, showcasing a remarkable year of creativity across film and television. From musicals that charmed audiences to gripping dramas and groundbreaking comedies, this year’s contenders reflect diverse talent and storytelling. As the entertainment industry gathers to honor its best and brightest, the competition is as fierce as ever. Here’s a closer look at the leading nominees and standout projects defining the year.
Emilia Pérez Leads the Pack
Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez, a whimsical drug cartel musical acquired by Netflix following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, emerged as the frontrunner with 10 nominations. The film is a top contender for Best Motion Picture – musical or Comedy, while Audiard received a nomination for Best Director. Performances by Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez earned supporting actress nods, and Karla Sofia Gascón was recognized for her lead role. Additional nominations include screenplay, original score, and several other categories, making it the year’s most-nominated film.
Talking about taking the lead in nominations and dominating the Golden Globes, Fabelmans and The Banshees of Inisherin conquered the night.
Strong Showings from The Brutalist and Conclave
Close on Emilia Pérez’s heels is Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist, an A24 drama that tells the compelling story of a Hungarian architect navigating the control of a mysterious art patron. With seven nominations, including Best Motion Picture – drama, the film’s stars Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones received acting nominations, and Guy Pearce earned a supporting actor nod. The project also gained recognition in the score and screenplay categories.
Another strong contender is Conclave, a gripping Focus Features drama centered on a high-stakes papal election. Ralph Fiennes was nominated for Best Actor in a Drama for his portrayal of a conflicted priest, while Isabella Rossellini earned a supporting actress nod. The film also secured nominations for best motion picture – drama, screenplay, and score, bringing its total to six nominations.

Several films stood out with four or more nominations. Universal’s blockbuster Wicked continues to make waves. At the same time, Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance surprised many by earning nominations for Best Motion Picture – musical or Comedy, Best Director, Lead Actress Demi Moore, and Supporting Actress Margaret Qualley. On the small screen, FX/Hulu’s The Bear leads with five nominations, including best musical/comedy series and acting nods for Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Liza Colón-Zayas.
Other notable shows include Only Murders in the Building and Shogun, both earning four nominations. Netflix’s Nobody Wants This, a surprise hit rom-com, broke through with acting and series nods. Newcomers like Baby Reindeer, Disclaimer, and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story each received three nominations. Squid Game made headlines with its second season, earning a Best Series – drama nod despite not yet premiering.

New Categories Shine
In its second year, the Golden Globes’ two new categories highlighted innovation.
