The episode that has raked in a lot of commentary on social media, sees another twist. Yes, we’re talking about Maulana Tariq Jameel’s comments in the Ehsaas Relief telethon which have gone viral.
After apologizing to the Pakistani media and journalists, Maulana Tariq Jameel took to his Twitter account once again. This time, the religious cleric apologized to all and sundry offended by his comments, including women.
This is what Maulana Tariq Jameel wrote in a series of tweets
“Recently I made some comments that I wish to clarify My aim was to point out that WE are all to blame for our current state. It was meant to be a general remark not targeting any specific men, women, persons, or gender, but as a reminder to get closer to what Allah teaches us.
Recently I made some comments that I wish to clarify
My aim was to point out that WE are all to blame for our current state. It was meant to be a general remark not targeting any specific men, women, persons or gender, but as a reminder to get closer to what Allah teaches us.— Tariq Jamil (@TariqJamilOFCL) April 27, 2020
My goal was to remind us all to focus on the spiritual and away from our desires and the materialistic. I am the first to admit as I have taught over the years, that there is no excuse for making any hurtful comments about anyone or making anyone feel uncomfortable. For which I sincerely apologize to anyone who may have been inadvertently hurt. I pray that Allah accepts our good deeds and forgive our shortcomings.”

Maulana Tariq Jameel’s unconditional apology stated some facts as well. He cleared his stance by stating that he did not mean to offend anyone, as always. He was making general remarks not targeting men or women, but wanted to set a reminder of Allah’s teachings.

The Maulana added that he wanted to awaken people spiritually against our desires. He again acknowledged the fact that nobody should make hurtful comments, including him. Laying emphasis on not making people uncomfortable, the Maulana ‘sincerely’ apologized to anyone and everyone hurt by his comments.
A heart of gold
Maulana Tariq Jameel’s recent apology shows that he has a heart of gold, one big enough to forgive or seek forgiveness. For years, the Maulana has taught and preached patience and morality to our society. Only yesterday, supporters of Maulana Tariq Jameel were demanding an apology from journalist Hamid Mir.
After his tweets, people from all walks of life showed their support — standing with him on his statement. For almost a week, this incident has remained the talk of the town. While figures in the Pakistani media continued to lambast the cleric for his statements, others have been supporting him for voicing his opinions.
Finally, it seems like this issue should die down and should be forgotten sooner rather than later.
