It’s big shocking news for not only Bangladeshi fans and his team but also for the cricket world. Tamim Iqbal brought 16 years of cricket career to an end, just three months before the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India.

Tamim Iqbal is undoubtedly one of the finest batsmen in the world of cricket. He has given his fans some of the iconic moments that no one can ever forget.

Tamim announced his immediate effect retirement during a press conference in Chattogram, a day after Bangladesh’s loss to Afghanistan in the first ODI of the three-match series.

Tamim Iqbal left his fans and teammates with an emotional press conference, addressing the media stated, “This is the end for me. I have given my best. I have tried my best. I am retiring from international cricket at this moment.”

Thanking the teammates and the coaching staff, Iqbal added, “I want to thank all my teammates, coaches, BCB officials, my family members, and those who have been with me through my long journey. They kept faith in me.”

Tamim gave everything for his family, back in 2017, he left the county series after his wife became an acid victim.

A Look At Tamim Iqbal’s Career

Iqbal made his debut for Bangladesh in an ODI in 2007 and has played in 241 ODIs, 78 T20Is, and 70 Tests for his country. With 25 centuries and 94 half-centuries, the talented left-handed opener has scored over 15,000 runs in international cricket.

Iqbal played his final Test match against Ireland in April after having previously retired from Twenty20 cricket last year. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has not yet announced Tamim’s replacement for the 50-over format.

Last year, Pakistani cricketer Mohammed Hafeez announced his retirement from international cricket.
