Saudi Arabia wants Muslims to wait until there is more clarity about the coronavirus pandemic before planning to attend the annual hajj pilgrimage. So the uncertainty over this year’s hajj continues. However, do you know you can perform hajj every day before going to sleep? Yes, this is true.

Amongst all creations, the benevolent Allah loves those who are penitent, devoted, doer of pleasant deeds and follow the path of the righteous. Precisely, every good Muslim wants to symbolize the beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and follow in his footsteps. It’s hard to know the virtues of the last Prophet (PBUH) and not have them in your good books. Here is one of his virtue, by which you can perform hajj every day before going to sleep.

Completing a hajj before going to sleep

It is said that Allah’s last and most favorite Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) narrated these teachings to Hazrat Ali (R.A). Following, are the ways, enumerated by him to perform hajj. All you have to do is read:

  • Four times Surah Fatiha
  • Three times Surah Ikhlas (Qul hu Allahu Ahad)
  • Three times any Durood Shareef (The shortest one is: Sallalaho Alaihi Wa Salam)
  • 10 times Astagfirullah (or any Istighfar)
  • End this with reciting four times the third Kalima. (The word of Glorification “Tumjeed“) which is,

Nevertheless, the ending of the Kalima marks the completion of one hajj.

Pretext behind Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) virtue

On one glorious night, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) summoned his successor, Hazrat Ali (R.A), and asked him: “Ya Ali! Do these five things before going to bed at night.”

  •  Give 4000 Dinars in Sadqa and then sleep
  •  Read one complete Quran and then sleep
  •  Pay the price for Jannah (heaven) and then sleep
  •  Make two people happy with each other when they are upset and then sleep
  •  Do one hajj and then sleep

Hazrat Ali (R.A) replied, “Ya Rasulallah! This looks impossible. How will I be able to do it?” Upon which, Prophet (PBUH) explained that when you recite Surah Fatiha four times, it will be equivalent to giving 4,000 Dinars as Sadqa, when you recite Surah Ikhlas three times, you complete one Quran, when you read Durood Shareef three times, it will be similar to the price of Jannah. When you say Astagfirullah 10 times, you make two unhappy people content with each other. And, your recitations come to an end with four times third Kalima, which is equal to one hajj.

Canceling the hajj would be unprecedented in modern times, but curbing attendance from high-risk areas has happened before, including in recent years during the Ebola outbreak. However, in the current times, at least we have the option of using the virtue of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and perform hajj every night.
