Sheikh Rasheed Does It Again Says 24 Crore People Have Booked Train Tickets For Eid

Federal Railway Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed in a press brief claimed that around 24 crore people in Pakistan had purchased train e-tickets for Eid amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

The video that has been going viral in which the minister claimed that 24 crore people have bought the train tickets. “24 crore people have already sent us the money online. They have booked the e-tickets for Eid.” However, interestingly the entire population of Pakistan stands at 22 crores.

Rasheed always grabs headlines with his unique styles, goof-ups, and sometimes controversial statements. He has often been tagged as one of the coolest politicians of Pakistan. Rasheed is also known as the Pindi Boy due to his swag. Like always he has once again taken social media by storm.

Pakistan Railways fears more loss

Sheikh Rasheed also said on Sunday that an amount of Rs240 million would be refunded to passengers if the decision of resumption of train service was not made by Tuesday.

“The Pakistan Railways is ready to run 30 trains in the initial phase. But, the final decision to resume train service across the country will be made after a meeting with Imran Khan. If the prime minister does not allow to resume the train services, the Pakistan Railways will start refunding tickets worth Rs240m,” he said.

The minister said that if railway operations would not resume there are fears of more loss to Pakistan Railways.

“Fifty percent revenue of Pakistan Railways is earned during Eid holidays. The deficit of Pakistan Railways has reached Rs5.5 billion but it will pay pensions and salaries to its staff and pensioners before Eidul Fitr,” he added.

However, on Monday, the government has decided to partially restore train services. They allowed 30 trains to resume services from May 20 onwards. The approval has been given by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
