Shaheen Shah Returns To Pakistan's Test Team For Two-Match Series Against Sri Lanka

Shaheen Shah, Pakistan’s “very excited” pace spearhead, returns to the Test team for their two-match series against Sri Lanka, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced in a press statement on Saturday.

The 2021 ICC cricketer of the year was cited as stating, “I am eager to make an impacting comeback in the same country and finish a century of wickets in Test cricket after missing our full home season due to the injury I sustained in Sri Lanka.

On Twitter, he recently said that viewers would witness him throw a red ball.

After a break of four months, Shaheen Shah Afridi made his comeback for the national team in the Twenty20 International (T20I) and One-Day International (ODI) squads for the home series against New Zealand in April.

No Pakistani bowler has been able to match the tally since the lanky left-arm pacer made his debut in 2018. The bowler is one wicket away from reaching a century of Test wickets.

Aamir Jamal, an uncapped all-rounder, and Mohammad Huraira, a batter, are also in the team that will play Sri Lanka in Pakistan’s opening match of the third ICC World Test Championship cycle.

The cricketing body reported that Huraira, who has participated in 24 first-class, 10 List A, and six T20 matches, has earned a slot after an excellent run in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, where he has been the competition’s top run-scorer for the past two editions.

Aamir, who played for the Northern and Shaheens, will join him. In the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2022–23, Aamir led all fast bowlers in wickets taken, taking 31 victims at an average of 29.71 and recording two five-wicket hauls.

Haroon Rashid, the men’s chief selector for the PCB, thanked the two newcomers to the test team and said that they had made their cases through “impressive performances” over time.

“We have devised this squad with the conditions and challenges that our players will encounter in Sri Lanka. This is our first series of the third round of the ICC World Test Championship and this squad is fully capable of providing us a solid start,” he added.
