KYIV: Explosions were recorded across Ukraine on New Year’s Eve as Russian missile attacks hit on Ukraine in three days, according to Reuters, citing Ukrainian officials.
According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, at least one person was killed and eight were injured in a series of explosions in the capital. Reuters correspondents in the city reported hearing ten powerful explosions.
According to the mayor, one of those injured in the bombings was a Japanese journalist who was rushed to the hospital.
According to the city administration, a hotel immediately south of Kyiv’s city centre was hit, and a residential structure in another neighbourhood was destroyed.
Kyrylo Tymoshenko, a presidential office official in Ukraine, said on Telegram that emergency services were on their way to the location but gave no other details.
Oleksiy Kuleba, the governor of the adjacent Kyiv area, had warned of a possible missile assault and stated air defences in the region were attacking targets.
Nationwide Explosions
Other cities in Ukraine were also targeted. Vitaliy Kim, the municipal governor of Mykolaiv’s southern region, reported on television that six persons had been injured.
Mr Kim claimed in a another Telegram post that Russia had targeted civilians with the strikes, something Moscow has previously denied.
Mr Tymoshenko said that a walkout in the southern industrial powerhouse city of Zaporizhzhia had destroyed residential buildings.
“With each successive missile attack on civilian infrastructure, more and more Ukrainians are convinced of the need to fight until Putin’s dictatorship is completely demolished,” Ukraine’s defence ministry stated on Telegram.
Russian Missile Attacks
According to AFP, Ukraine’s air defence knocked down 12 of the 20 missiles launched by Russia on Saturday afternoon.
“Russia launched more than 20 cruise missiles… Our air defence destroyed 12 air strikes,” said Ukraine’s commander-in-chief, General Valeriy Zaluzhny, on social media.
The attacks are never be ended, recently in 2021 when TTP has claimed the attacked on afghanistan airport which kills almost 16 people died.
