Veteran Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor passed away in Mumbai on Thursday morning. He was 67-year-old. The news was shared by his friend and co-actor Amitabh Bachchan on Twitter. Kapoor survived by son Ranbir Kapoor, wife Neetu Kapoor, and daughter Ridhima Kapoor.
“He’s gone..! Rishi Kapoor .. gone .. just passed away .. I am destroyed,” he wrote on Twitter
A day before, his elder brother Randhir Kapoor had said the actor was taken to H.N. Reliance Hospital in Mumbai after some breathing difficulties. “He is in the hospital after suffering from cancer. Rishi has some breathing problem, so he has been admitted to the hospital. He is stable now,” Randhir had then said.
Rishi Kapoor’s death comes a day after actor Irrfan Khan’s demise. Press Trust of India (PTI) reported Randhir confirming Rishi Kapoor’s passing in Mumbai hospital.
Kapoor family issues statement on Rishi Kapoor’s death
The Kapoor family in a statement said, “Our dear Rishi Kapoor passed away peacefully at 8:45 am IST in hospital today after a two-year battle with leukemia. The doctors and medical staff at the hospital said he kept them entertained to the last. He remained jovial and determined to live to the fullest right through two years of treatment across two continents”.
The statement further reads, “Family, friends, food, and films remained his focus and everyone who met him during this time was amazed at how he did not let his illness get the better of him. He was grateful for the love of his fans that poured in from the world over. In his passing, they would all understand that he would like to be remembered with a smile and not with tears. In this hour of personal loss, we also recognize the world is going through a very difficult and troubled time. There are numerous restrictions around movement and gathering in public. We would like to request all his fans and well-wishers and friends of the family to please respect the laws that are in force. He would not have it any other way.”

Rishi Kapoor’s health
Moreover, the actor returned to India last September after undergoing treatment for cancer in the US for almost a year. In February, Kapoor was hospitalized twice due to health issues. Kapoor, who was quite active on social media, didn’t post anything on his Twitter account since April 2.
His last message on Twitter was about how India should fight unitedly against the coronavirus war. “An appeal folded hands to all brothers and sisters from all social status and faiths. Please don’t resort to violence, stone-throwing, or lynching. Doctors, Nurses, Medics, Policemen, etc. are endangering their lives to save you. We have to win this Coronavirus war together. Please,” he wrote.
His controversial tweets have created social media’s feud several times. On several occasions, both Kapoor and Pakistan’s Twitter army were seen tackling each other on social media.
Yesterday, another Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan passed away. Bollywood fans across the globe and film fraternity were still coping up with the loss when Kapoor’s death came as another shocker today.
The actor had recently announced his next project, a remake of Hollywood film ‘The Intern’, also featuring Deepika Padukone.
