Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leader and Senator Rehman Malik on Saturday denied the rape allegation against him by a US blogger Cynthia D. Ritchie. He called them ‘baseless, shameful, and inappropriate’.

A spokesperson of the PPP leader said in a statement that the purpose behind the US blogger’s allegations was to damage Malik’s reputation.

“The US woman made the inappropriate allegations against Rehman Malik upon the instigation of a certain individual or a group.”

The spokesperson said, “Malik respects Ritchie and all women. He will not respond to the allegations with any foul words.”

“Rehman Malik has always raised his voice for the rights of women and has fought for their dignity.”

“Malik always raised voice against the Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir and against India’s mistreatment of its own minority Muslims,” said the statement.

The allegations against Malik came at a time when he took notice of the accusations against late Benazir Bhutto by the US blogger, the statement added.

Yousuf Raza Gilani also denies Ritchie’s claims

PPP leader Yousuf Raza Gilani, in a separate statement, also denied Ritchie’s allegations. According to local media reports, the former premier said he even considered responding to such allegations ‘humiliation and disgrace’.

Gilani alleged that Ritchie had come to Pakistan as part of a campaign to malign politicians. He added those raising such allegations should be ashamed. Gilani asked whether a person of the prime minister’s stature could do such an act at the Presidency.

Meanwhile, Gilani’s son also responded to Ritchie’s allegations and moved the FIA against her.

In a Facebook live session, Ritchie had earlier accused ex-interior minister Rehman Malik of raping her in the year 2011. She also claimed that she was ‘physically manhandled’ by former health minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin and former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.
