Being elected President again at 71, Putin will serve for the 5th term. Putin had an easy win in the elections. Opposition leader Alexei Navalny passed away under mysterious circumstances a month before the elections; many critics are in jail.

Putin’s inauguration ceremony took place on Tuesday, May 7th, in Kremlin with many foreign dignitaries present.

Many Ukrainian allies decided to boycott the event. France alone was present. US spokesperson Matthew Miller stated, “We certainly did not consider that election free and fair, but he is the president of Russia and he is going to continue in that capacity”.
