PSL Matches To Be Played Behind Closed Doors Amid Covid-19 Fear!

Pakistan confirmed its 21st Coronavirus case on Thursday. The federal government said that the National Security Committee will review the measures put in place for checking the spread of Coronavirus. The Sindh government said that PSL’s remaining matches in Karachi would be played out without any spectators.

Karachi to host PSL matches without spectators!

On Thursday, Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired PTI’s parliamentary party meeting in Islamabad. Khan said the govt was ready to face the challenge of Covid-19.

The announcement had coincided with the Sindh government’s decision regarding PSL matches.

Senator Murtaza Wahab, the provincial government spokesperson, wrote on his verified Twitter handle: “Sindh government has decided that the remaining matches of PSL in Karachi will take place without any crowd. This decision was made after consultation with all stakeholders including the Pakistan Cricket Board”.

 

There were rumors that Sindh government was hiding information regarding the spread of Coronavirus. However, Wahab has denied any potential claims that the provincial government was hiding information with regard to the spread of the virus.

Wahab stated: “The Sindh government is not hiding any information about coronavirus or the number of patients in the province.”

COVID: A global pandemic

On Wednesday, WHO officially declared the outbreak of Coronavirus as a global pandemic.

The statement was made by WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Tedros stated: “We are concerned by the alarming levels of severity and spread and by the alarming levels of inaction. Therefore, we have made the assessment that COVID-19 can be characterized as a pandemic.”

Impact of Coronavirus on Pakistan!

State Health Minister Dr. Zafar Mirza wrote on his official twitter handle: “Due to the widespread of COVID-19, the WHO wants to indicate the significance for countries to strengthen their response and preparation for imminent community spread. This means the world can still change the course of this pandemic, by detecting, testing, treating, isolating, tracing, and mobilizing their people in the response. Countries need to scale up emergency resp by communicating with the people about risks and how to protect the public“.

Dr Mirza stated that the provincial and federal governments worked in close coordination. Mirza also stated that “We will inshAllah continue to work to keep Pakistanis safe from Coronavirus.”
