Congratulations are in order for Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra and her husband, American pop star Nick Jonas as they welcome their first child via surrogacy.
The couple took to Instagram on Friday to announce they were overjoyed after sharing they have now embraced parenthood.
“We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate,” penned down Chopra while tagging Jonas. “We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family. Thank you so much.”
Jonas also shared the same post on his social media page.
While congratulatory wishes have been pouring in from all corners of the world, it is now reported that Chopra and Jonas’ baby had arrived 12 weeks before the due time.
According to a report published in Daily Mail, the baby was due in April but the surrogate ended up delivering the child in a premature delivery in Southern California. The reports suggested that the baby and the surrogate are still in the hospital and the couple is waiting for their little princess to be healthy enough to move her to Los Angeles.
Why go down the surrogate route?
“Priyanka had been trying to get her filming all done before the baby girl was due in April – but obviously this has completely thrown her plans,” the source said. The source also added that the duo had been wanting to have a baby for a while now. However, their schedules had come in the way of their family planning.
“Chopra does not have any fertility issues preventing her from having a baby,” said the source. “But she is 39 now so it is not getting any easier. Their busy work schedules also mean that it’s difficult for them to physically be together to conceive when she is ovulating, so some time ago they went down the surrogacy route,” the source was quoted saying.
As of now, Chopra and Jonas had sought privacy in this special time and are reportedly waiting to spend time with the new member of the family.
The couple tied the knot in December 2018. They met at the grand fashion event Met Gala 2017, where they represented designer Ralph Lauren. The singer had shut down an entire Tiffany’s store in New York to pick out Chopra’s ring. He had proposed to Chopra on her birthday while vacationing in London.
Fans went into a frenzy recently when the Bollywood star removed the last name of her husband on her Instagram profile, generating divorce rumors.
