Since the inception of 2020, battery capacities across all Samsung Galaxy phones in all price segments have received a significant boost this year. One of those phones that have received a massive boost in battery is Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, despite of having some power hungry features such as a 120Hz display refresh rate and a 7-inch screen, does lasts long on a single charge. This is mainly due to the massive size of its battery. Apart from that, it is also impressive to view how quickly the battery goes from 0 to 100% with the smartphone’s 25W charger.
All three models of Galaxy S20 support 25W super-fast charging. However, Samsung has tuned the Galaxy S20 Ultra for charging the fastest or at least in a similar time when compared with the Galaxy S20+, despite the battery capacity differences. Just an hour of charge can get the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra from 0 to 100%. This was evident in a test conducted by Ookla. The results of the test are provided below:
The results of the test illustrate the fact that it takes only an hour to fully charge this smartphone. This is certainly splendid, specifically when considering the fact that this phone does utilize a massive 5000 mAh battery. This is particularly impressive when we consider the fact that only six months ago, the Note 10+ was one of the best in terms of charging speed. The phone’s 4300 mAh battery went from 0 to full in around 70 minutes.
The reason for such quick charging ability is simple. With a fast charging technology, the power obtained from the charger starts to taper off once it crosses the 50-60% charge.
However, this is not evident in the Galaxy S20 Ultra as it is available on other Samsung Galaxy phones. It is also good to see that Samsung did not just put a big battery in the Galaxy S20 model just for the sake of having better capacity. It is essential to note that the S20 Ultra can sustain for a complete day even if it has been used heavily and also with a 120Hz refresh rate enabled. When required, it can be topped up in an hour. Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra in Pakistan might have a price of approximately Rs. 219,999 due to its amazing features.
The Galaxy S20 Ultra, along with Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20+, has now become the world’s first smartphone to receive the USB fast-charge certification from USB-IF (USB Implementers Forum). The certification also means that the three smartphone models of Samsung Galaxy S20 also support USB Power Delivery 3.0 and PPS (Programmable Power Supply) specifications.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra price in Pakistan is absolutely justified because of its fast-charging feature. The certification also illustrates the fact that the phones would remain safe while they are also fast-charged through a similarly certified charger.
Moreover, the PPS is also an essential part of USB PD 3.0 specifications. It helps to make sure that the device and the charger communicate with each other for supporting flexible voltage levels for obtaining higher levels of efficiency and thermal management.
It was with the Galaxy Note 10+ that Samsung first started supporting PPS protocols and USB PD 3.0. Similar to Galaxy S20 Ultra, the phone also supports 25W and 45W fast charging modes. It is hoped that the Galaxy Note 10 and the Galaxy Note 10+ would soon receive the USB fast-charge certification.
As of March 2020, only Samsung’s own fast chargers are able to support the 45W charging on the Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy Note 10+. It is certainly difficult to find third-party chargers that can go to as high as 45W. It also supports USB PD 3.0 and PPS protocols. Samsung has also launched a car charger supporting 45W fast charging.
In May 2019, Samsung also released its USB-C Power delivery controller chips. One of them went to as high as 100W of power. It also supports USB PD 3.0 specifications. There are also other brands that could use the chips made by Samsung for making chargers that could be compatible with not only Galaxy Note 10+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra but also tablets, smartphones and also laptops from other brands.
