Over the last couple of decades, porn – or pornography – has gained immense popularity in Pakistan. Porn industries over the world have made billions of dollars through their content and with that, they’ve been able to spread a disease around the globe, one which cannot be easily tamed… The disease known as Pornography.
How Porn Got Around
Pornography made its way into Pakistan a few decades back, selling Playboys covertly from magazine stands, video and movie shops, selling and renting pornographic VCDs and DVDs to people who requested them. These shops used to have a wide array up for selection; magazines, with the CD-covers lined up to select from.
It is time to realize that porn, always famous with the male populace in Pakistan, has also got girls in on the act through their own preferred mediums.
How Technology Has Become the Gateway of Porn in Pakistan

However, since we’re now in the 21st century and technology has seemingly taken over – smut is not procured from walking through dark alleys to shops, looking for CDs to take back home. It is everywhere, via courtesy the greatest source: the internet.
From websites (unlocked through changing of IPs), to viral pornographic groups on WhatsApp, through your smartphones – even kids who aren’t old enough to mentally or physically to fathom what porn is, do watch or have watched it.

If guys resort to pornography through videos and pictures – believe it or not, the girls have their own ways. As debatable as one might think this point is, it is in fact, very true. The majority of girls choose erotica – which is also known as ‘Word Porn‘. As suggested by the demographics, a simple and great example for the feeble mind to get what literary-porn is about can be judged through ‘50 Shades of Grey‘ – the book. This format is most favored for women, which is confusing as to why it is acceptable and televised porn is not.

Thus, the argument that porn is only seen through pictures; porn is porn, be it through words, pictures or videos – the basic concept of pornography is acting out scenarios which people have or have not been able to imagine or fantasize about.

Literary porn alongside televised porn is also becoming famous with girls – a prime example is, of the show Game of Thrones – which a huge amount of Pakistani girls watch, along with girls from all over the world. The show contains regular sexual and pornographic content.
People of All Ages Watch Porn
It’s not just the teenagers or young-bloods that resort to porn for personal satisfaction – the aged veterans don’t lag far behind. Porn is all around us now. Even if you walk into somebody’s house, there is a possibility of them hanging a picture with a naked woman painted on it, or a waterfall sculpture that showcases some sort of pornographic content. Pakistan has accepted sexual globalization trends for what they are.

Since everything is easily accessible on the internet, once a user gets addicted to porn, there’s no turning back – the next thing they know, they’d be watching things they never even imagined existed.
Porn is like a black-hole, once you’re in, there’s no way out.
The sexual frustration that builds inside a particular person can be let out through two ways – either they resort to porn, or they resort to using their imagination – of the two, porn seems like a better choice for those who watch and enjoy it.

Watching porn and sexual content increases the arousal level of a person, which in turn increases the “happy hormone” – dopamine – of the brain, giving the user a pleasant experience. People become conditioned to the stimulation they get from watching the explicit sexual content, and need it every time for their own arousal. This is how a person can become addicted to watching porn and resort to different methods to gain that similar experience once the ‘uniqueness’ wears off.
As published in the Dailymail, a 2011 study from Published Today shows that these dopamine spikes mean porn-users start needing increasingly extreme experiences to become sexually aroused.
It’s not just how about how porn affects the dopamine level of the brain, it’s also about how porn affects the human psychology. Especially with Pakistanis, who to be very honest, don’t get too much action (except if you’re Zahra Haider) and so pornographic addiction makes one perceive the opposite sex in a different manner, even unconsciously.
All in all, it’s safe to say that there is no controlling porn in Pakistan or anywhere else in the world. There are loopholes in every ban and censor, something people can get past easily.
