On a hot, sunny day in Karachi, work was the last thing on the mind of this policeman – who had to attend a court-hearing. During the proceedings in the Anti-Terrorism Court, the judge and jury seemed very dull and distressed – with the weather taking its toll on everybody inside the courtroom.

Abid Ali, the investigating officer in the abhorring, boring case – decided to spice things up and literally, have a blast! When the judge asked the policeman a trivial question on “How grenades work?” – Abid Ali, with his sharp mind and enthralling party skills, took a grenade out and decided to unpin it, right there, in the courtroom – LAD!
Suddenly, everyone in the courtroom, including the judge, knew – “How a grenade works!” – It’s still not known if he brought other party items along with him or not, subject to further inquiry, however, rumor has it, that the policeman also had a samurai sword, nunchuks and a couple of C4 bombs in his pockets – in case they wanted the party to go out of control.

The intellectual policeman not only performed the party trick but also taught us a lesson. Sometimes, it’s better to keep your tricks in the bag and your bag at home – he also taught us the importance of “actions speak louder than words” – in this case, they bang!
All satire apart, this extremely baffling and perplexing incident just shows the incapability of our policemen. It is to be an ethical and professional ritual, to defuse any weaponry that is brought in the courtroom as proof. Height of stupidity when the policeman doesn’t explain, but actually performs the procedure practically. Also, if I were the judge, the last question I would be asking is that of how a grenade works – has he never watched any movies?
All in all, the sad, stupid and laughable incident left 5 people injured including the judge of the Anti-Terrorism Court (yes, the party-boy policeman too). According to authorities, the policeman who performed the wonderful act would be ‘severely punished’ after he recovers from his injuries. We wonder what his punishment would be? Let’s just hope it doesn’t involve a grenade.
