On Saturday, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar declared that the petrol prices will remain stable until 2023.

The finance minister stated in a televised address that the price of kerosene oil and light diesel will likewise remain unchanged.

Petrol Prices Will Remain Unchanged

According to the finance minister, the Oil and Regulatory Gas Authority (Ogra) has suggested a small upward modification in the tariff for kerosene and light diesel oil due to a rise in the pricing of petroleum products on the international market.

Dar stated that the government did not accept the regulatory authority’s proposal based on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directions.

“The decision was made after noting that the weather is chilly and the poorest people use light diesel oil for tubewells, while people earning the lowest wages also use kerosene,” he explained.

“According to the prime minister’s directives, the government has decided to absorb the levy on these two products and reduce the collected amount in order to maintain these prices.”

The government reduced the price of petrol by Rs10 and diesel by Rs7.5 on December 15.

On November 30, the price of kerosene oil was decreased by Rs10 per litre, while the price of light diesel oil was reduced by Rs7.5 per litre.
