Landlord In Bahawalpur Assaults And Abuses Innocent 50-Year-Old Woman In Public

Pakistan Bahawalpur abuse woman

The world has come to a standstill with the ongoing pandemic and has also made all of us self-reflect why and what we did that brought this wrath of ALLAH on us. However, the question is quite easily answerable, when we see the monsters we have become. From brutality towards animals to domestic violence, killings and so much more. Isn’t it probable that the ill-fated pandemic is something that well, something we all deserve?

Domestic violence and violation of human rights is something that is a hidden social evil that Pakistan is facing. The stories keep on getting harsh and horrible and we feel depressed and devastated at each of them, trying our best to make their voices heard. However, these aren’t some snippets of fiction, rather they are echoes of broken hearts and crushed dreams of so many souls; we defy to believe that they are not deafening.

Inhumanity prevails as landlord beats 50-year-old woman

In the small city of Bahawalpur Pakistan, a devastating incident similar to this occurred and our souls are shaken with the inhumanity they portray. A fifty-year-old woman faced continuous and brutal abuse from the landlord and a group of his relatives;  for a certain reason that is still unknown. The landlord with his son and nephews in front of everyone beat the poor women harshly.

As if that was not enough torture, the poor woman was dragged and pulled by her hair to the ground and kicked brutally. What is saddening and depressing to us is that no one came to the aid of this poor woman.

Is this the society of brutes we have become? And to say this is the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Islam honors women and gives them a beautiful role. But the monsters that we see lurking in our society today are not something we can be proud of. Patriarchal idiosyncracies have pushed us back towards the time of ‘Jahilat’ and we stay accustomed to these norms to date.

While many are trying to raise awareness regarding the bizarre situation, it is upsetting and demoralizing to see the incident took place initially.

Role of women in Islam

Hazrat Aisha (R.A) signifies that our beloved Prophet (P.B.U.H) never hit a servant or any woman.

‘The Messenger of Allah (saws) never struck a servant or a woman’.

Moreover, the Prophet (P.B.U.H) in his Farewell Sermon also said: ‘I enjoin good treatment of women, for they are prisoners with you, and you have no right to treat them otherwise, unless they commit clear indecency. If they do that, then forsake them in their beds and hit them, but without causing injury or leaving a mark. If they obey you, then do not seek means of annoyance against them. You have rights over your women and your women have rights over you. Your rights over your women are that they are not to allow anyone whom you dislike to tread on your bedding (furniture), nor allow anyone whom you dislike to enter your houses. And their right over you are that you should treat them kindly with regard to their clothing and food.’

The Holy Quran addresses the role of women in a complete Surah, Surah Nisa, to allow and guide us on the true and right path. Then, why is that we let patriarchy decide for us?

Time to stand up

The landlord poorly beats the woman, in front of the whole village! What was her crime? It is time, that we stand up. If not for the sake of this brutality, then perhaps; for the sake of our own. What answer will we give to our Lord on the Day of Judgement, knowing that we saw cruelty rage havoc and stayed silent in our own comfort?

Islam is against raising hand on anyone, so are these barbaric approaches deemed worthy of being carried out? Or are we living in a time where we have forgotten, God Forbid the true message of ALLAH. Many might contradict, but truthfully if we think with an open mind, perhaps, the COVID-19 pandemic is a test of its own. Perhaps, this is a calling of reawakening and righting our wrongs. It is time we bring a change in our own self. For a change, maybe why not look within our own soul and search for flaws instead of others.
