Shaheen Shah Afridi is likely to become the captain of the Pakistan cricket team for the upcoming T20i series against Afghanistan.
PCB is deciding to rest several key players for the major series and tournaments in which Babar Azam is also included.
Looking at current Shaheen’s leadership in PSL, he’s been astonishing in his skipper avatar because of the way he’s motivating his teammates, and Lahore Qalandars has also become the most favorite one in the tournament.
Cricket fans are applauding PCB’s decision because players who are named in the rest list desperately need a break and most importantly Babar should be the high priority.
Pakistan’s New Captain Likely To Be Shaheen Afridi
Skipper Babr Azam and wicketkeeper-batter Muhammad Rizwan are likely to rest for the series, the sources added.
Meanwhile, batters Saim Ayub, Haseebullah Khan, and Azam Khan along with pacer Ihsanullah are also likely to get the nod from the selectors for the series. All-rounders Faheem Ashraf and Imad Wasim are also in contention for selection.
One more thing needs to be noted, the schedule of the three T20i has been revised. Previously, the matches were set to be played on March 25, 27, and 29 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. However, they will now take place on March 24, 26, and 27.
“Afghanistan Cricket Board and Pakistan Cricket Board have jointly agreed to make slight tweaks to the itinerary of Afghanistan’s home three-match T2OI series against Pakistan.
The start of the series is brought forward by a day and will now start on March 24, with the last two games to be played on March 26 and 27 in Sharjah, UAE,” ACB said in a statement.
Shaheen Shah is tremendous in this PSL season with his leadership and bowling too. His recent wickets were praised by Dale Steyn who said that “Shaheen’s wrist is amazing”.
