On Thursday, Pakistan Telecommunications Limited (PTCL) informed that they were unsure when they would fix the Asia-Africa-Europe-1 (AAE-1) undersea internet line or the slow internet connection.
People in Pakistan who used the internet said it was slow and made it hard to get to services all through 2024.

On January 3, PTCL announced that their teams were diligently working to resolve the issues users were experiencing due to a problem with the AAE-1 subsea internet line, which connected Pakistan to the rest of the world. This problem slowed the country’s network speed.
The next day, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, the IT minister, said that about 80% of the lost bandwidth due to the fault had been made up for by moving traffic to two other cables.

In today’s statement, PTCL spokesperson Aamir Pasha said that to address the slowdown, PTCL “added additional bandwidth which has majorly resolved [the] internet slowness issue”.
The telecom operator did note that, particularly during peak hours, users may still have poor internet speeds on Meta-owned platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
“We expect complete resolution over the next few days,” the statement added, without giving an exact timeframe.

“PTA and PTCL are working diligently to ensure the earliest possible resolution.”
Speaking to Dawn.com, Pasha said that the bandwidth shortfall had “been addressed”.
Meanwhile, PTCL technical personnel said that problems of this nature take between two and three months to fix.
Pasha did not offer comment on this claim.
