NCCIA Formed to Counter Rising Cybercrimes

The government of Pakistan recently announced the establishment of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). The new wing will work under the Interior Agency of Pakistan. NICCA has been established under the Prevention of Electronic Crime Act 2016. The head, Director General of NCCIA will be a grade 21 officer who will share similar authority as an Inspector General Police. The structure of the body will consist of Additional Director Generals, Directors, and other posts as per the requirement of the body.

The establishment of the body is to ensure an effective counter to the increasing numbers of cybercrimes. The body will take over the function of the cybercrime cell under FIA which will dissolute.

The dissolution will follow all the ongoing cases in FIA to be transferred to the NCCIA; furthermore, the NCCIA will follow the Police Act of 2002 as the disciplinary code. The government if deemed necessary will take any actions to remove any obstacle to; the efficient functioning of NCCIA.
