There are very less artists in the Pakistani industry who have gained endless fans and love. Among them, there’s one actor who started a drama serial that’s creating history and it’s been on the air for 12 years.
Nabeel Zafar is one of the finest actors in the Pakistani drama industry who has given some iconic and memorable performances that no one can ever forget. Especially for his marvelous performance in “Dhuwan”.
12 years back, Nabeel started a sitcom drama called ‘Bulbulay’ which became highly popular among all age groups. No one believed that this drama serial will go beyond the limits and reach its milestone.
No doubt, Bulbulay has given some great episodes and still spreading laugh among their fans. It’s hard to run one drama for such a long time.
Nabeel appeared in a hot seat podcast, where the host was honest about his 12 years of journey in Bulbulay to which Nabeel responded and shared his in-depth love for it.
Nabeel Zafar on his 12 years of Bulbulay journey – He’s being honest
In his recent appearance at To Be Honest with Tabish Hashmi show, the host asked some real truthful questions to Nabeel. With the start of the show, Tabish asked, “You’ve been doing this [Bulbulay] for 12 years now. Till when will you keep doing this?”
Nabeel responded brilliantly with the real truth and his answer showed his love for the show. “Yaar mujhe kuch or karna aata nae hai (Man I don’t know anything else to do),” quipped Nabeel in response.
Reminding him about all his performances before Bulbulay, Tabish objected, “But you’ve done so much in the past. Tell me, is there anything new in the pipeline?”
“In all honesty, I do it for the money.” When told that Ayesha Omar said the same thing, Nabeel admitted, “It’s what it is.” Speaking about his wife, whose part Pakistani, the producer-cum-actor recalled how their love story started.
“We met for the first time while I was doing Des Pardes. I was at a beautiful Glasgow station, it was quite cold and chilly, and no, I wasn’t on a horse,” he joked. “She had seen me in Dhuan and was a fan who just approached for an autograph.
I made her sign on the nikkahnama in return,” he continued. “Kidding, but after that first meeting, we met quite a few times. Then I asked my mother to meet hers and we eventually got married.”
In these 12 years of Bulbulay they have seen ups and downs. Just like last year when Bulbulay’s one of the episodes aired that contained Offensive content. After that, netizens slammed, and then Nabeel Zafar apologized for it.
‘I still meet my old fans’ – Nabeel Zafar
When Tabish asked him about recalling his old times gathering with friends. Nabeel said, “No, I still meet all my friends. This reminds me of that one time while shooting for Dhuan, I asked our peon if he had brought food. He said ‘yes’.
When I asked him where he got it from, he quipped, ‘Sir jee, wahin se laya hun jahan se ap ghurbat ke dinon men khaatay thay (Sir, I got it from the same place you must’ve eaten from when you were poor).’ I told him ‘Beta, it’s not like I eat lion’s meat now’.”
With Nabeel’s quick and honest answers Tabish asked him a cliché question. Like every young boy, ever dreamt about becoming an actor at a dhaaba with his fellows back in the day. Nabeel shared, “In those times, families encouraged us to pursue acting.”
He also recalled some memories when fans scared him. “Happened plenty of times,” he confessed. “People of all kinds meet us in their own way. If you go to Gujranwala, they’ll look at you and scream, “Oh bhau, baat suno! (Hey you, listen up!).
You’ll think they’ll hit you. But when you go closer, they’ll say, “Chai piye bagher mat jaana, acha kaam kartay ho, (Don’t leave without having tea, you do good work).” To this, Tabish asked, “Did anyone ever try to bribe you into loving them?” Taken aback, Nabeel joked, “Nobody could successfully do that and now I’m broke.”
Ayesha always gets the script – Nabeel Zafar
Tabish tried to make things funnier, he asked Nabeel why Ayesha don’t receive scripts? Nabeel said, “No, we always give her the script.
It’s just when Bulbulay started, Ayesha was a VJ. So, she couldn’t decipher the way Ali Imran sahab wrote. We once brought her to this under construction building to do a scene in which she’s been kidnapped. She regains consciousness and the kidnappers have to make her unconscious again.
Ayesha refuses to do it. Because there’s mud everywhere and to faint, she’ll have to fall into dust and dirt. Everyone’s confused about what to do and I ask Ayesha, ‘Ap kharay kharay behosh hosakti hain? (Can you faint while standing straight?)’.”
Nabeel further shared, that how difficult he improvised the scene where Ayesha need to be faint, but he pretended to be unconscious while standing. He made the kidnappers to each other in a fun way that why didn’t she fall? That concluded that ‘Khubsoorat doesn’t spoil her clothes.’
Nabeel also shared how one of the most important and funniest characters ‘Momo’ (Hina Dilpazeer) became the household of the Bulbulay which in reality called for one episode only.
