Be it weight gain or weight loss, or the way we dress- the constant criticism of our bodies is a grave fact of life. However, what’s even worse is that women in our society are made prone to it at a far worse scale and intensity than their male peers, often by other women themselves. The same happened with the former Pakistani model Aaminah Haq. Even, model and actor Amna Ilyas made a comment on Aaminah Haq being fat.
An old clip from Hassan Sheheryar Yasin’s talk show has been making the rounds on social media. While speaking to the heart of the problem, the video shows models Amna Ilyas and Sadaf Kanwal engaging in a ‘harmless’ game of Guess the Celebrity.
When asked about Aaminah Haq, Amna Ilyas points out how she has gained weight in a rather ghastly manner and become fat. In fact, the models can be seen high-fiving each other. As it appears, both seemed quite proud of their petty comment.
Ilyas is a well-known name in the Pakistani Entertainment Industry. The actress has always been vocal about issues such as racism, colorism, and so much more. However, such comments coming from her shows how much she practices what she preaches.
It seems as though even she herself cannot stand by her stance on body positivity. Just recently, Ilyas made an awareness video about colorism and the issues surrounding body image in our society.
Holier-than-thou much?
But well, what a hypocrite. Netizens called out Ilyas over her hypocrisy and double standards. However, Haq took it to her Instagram to respond to the unsolicited body-shaming comment.
She wrote, “A few of you have tagged me in something a model/actress said about me. Truth be told, if body shaming me made brought some small shred of joy in her life, then you’re welcome!”
“Unhappy people tend to gravitate towards hate instead of kindness and compassion,” Haq continued. It is to be noted that the former supermodel played a crucial part and paved the way for the models and designers to come in the emerging fashion industry of the 90s.
Amna Ilyas denies making any such comments
Showing no shred of regret, the unapologetic actress responded to all the backlash she had been receiving for her two-facedness. According to the Ready Steady No actress, it was not her who called Haq ‘fat’.
In an Instagram video, Ilyas responds to the criticism and says, ‘Woh toh main hoon hee nahi (That was not even me).”
So apparently, she is under the impression that she has not done anything wrong. Strongly reeks of hypocrisy, doesn’t she?
Haq is no stranger to unsolicited and unnecessary comments about her appearance on social media. However, by handling it with intelligence and poise, she has shown that beauty is more than hourglass figures and young faces. It is about being gracious and kind.
