Several videos and pictures of the ongoing wedding festivities of Junaid Safdar and Ayesha Saif Khan emerged on social media over the weekend. Following the public criticism, Maryam Nawaz has asked everyone to respect her family’s privacy.

The son of Maryam Nawaz and Captain Muhammad Safdar Awan tied the knot in London in August. However, they could not attend the nikah ceremony since Maryam had announced that she would not request the government to allow her to travel to London for the ceremony.

As the wedding festivities have now begun in the provincial capital, the Sharif family has been busy with the celebrations as the PML-N Vice President hosted a qawwali night.

Following in the footsteps of her son Junaid, as well as her cousin Hamza Shahbaz, PML-N leader Maryam also decided for singing at her son’s wedding celebration.

While some congratulated the family on the impending weddings, others criticized. Addressing the same, Maryam took to social media and set the record straight of how her personal life is not up for commentary.

“My son’s wedding is a private, family affair,” Maryam tweeted. She went on to add, “I, like all mothers, deserve a chance to celebrate the occasion without attracting political commentary.” The PML-N leader also asked for the privacy of her family. “I humbly request media and everyone else to respect the family’s right to privacy.”

Federal Minister for information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry previously congratulated Maryam during a press conference in Islamabad.

“I would like to appreciate Hamza (Shehbaz) and Maryam (Nawaz),” he told the reporters. “The thing is whenever there are family functions, people sing and celebrate. There was a family function and it was very nice of them to [enjoy] it. That’s how normal Pakistan is. What is there to object? It’s perfectly okay.”

He then shared, “We only have political differences with them [Maryam and Hamza]. We wish them the best in their private matters. Our only objection is to not spend our money on these [lavish] weddings.”

Members of the Sharif family amazed us with their vocals as the most recent to show her skills was the mother of the groom. Many videos circulating on the internet showed the mother of the groom, Maryam singing. Before her, Hamza Shahbaz also took the internet by surprise when videos of him crooning went viral on social.
