World Cup qualifiers comes to an end in Europe, where Germany faced shocking defeat which created pathway for the Macedonian underdogs.
The week gotten busy with the amazing fixtures, where top teams competed and managed to secure victory.
But some of them started the qualifying journey with the perfect start and holds the strong position. Comparatively to the last fixtures, where Portugal team faced controversial decision and Ronaldo got furious over the referees.
People thought FIFA would consider involving VAR, but the situation stayed the same. Spain dominating in their Group B and continues their unbeaten streak of World Cup qualifier. Their last match against Kosovo surely looked one-sided, as the Spanish side scored thrice against the small team and overshadowing their group.
Even England won their match against Poland with the help of Harry Kane ready to rescue his side. But Poland fought bravely and equalized it. Later in the ending time, Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire’s late strike gave his nation a sudden calm breath to take.
Germany Meets the Shock:
It’s always hard to believe that the strongest side in the group loses against some underdog who come out of nowhere and stun the opposition.
The same thing happened to the German side when they faced North of Macedonia and underdogs demolished the Euro’s one of the strongest teams.
North Macedonia showcased their domination in the first half, when a brilliant clean tap in goal scored by Goran Pandev during first half additional time.
But in the second half, Leroy Sane played an impressive move, which gave his side a penalty, and İlkay Gündoğan the Manchester City mid-fielder hit the sweet spot.
The match went little bit controversial when Macedonian players appealed for the hand ball and instead of considering it referee gave yellow card to Goran Pandev.
Germany found an exceptional opportunity in the 76th minute, where Serge Gnabry gave clean pass to Tim Werner and he missed the golden ball there. Same thing happened to Macedonian side in the very late minute, but instead of missing it Eljif Elmas found the corner and tapped in.
German Winger Serge Gnabry talked to the press after the match, “Compliments to North Macedonia. We came back, gained opportunities, but we didn’t do the things in front (of the net). Then that wasn’t enough in the end,
Gundogan also step forward and shared his views. “We all know that we cannot lose a game like that. The way we conceded the goals was poor,” “This isn’t what we expect of ourselves and there’s no explanation for it. We all have to reach top form by the end of May.”
German head coach, Jaochim Low looked very much disappointed but more tired. “The disappointment is huge after this game. We were just tired today, too.
We didn’t have the freshness in the actions, we made too many mistakes in the game forward,”
“Whenever we played quickly, we could become dangerous. The opponent sat deep, but we didn’t find any solutions to it. Overall, it was disappointing.”
“This defeat is on us today,” Low said. “The disappointment is big if you lose like that.”
North Macedonian Coach Got Emotional:
Igor Angelovski couldn’t resist his emotions over an exciting and big win over Germany.
“What can I tell you? I can’t, out of emotion, out of happiness,” “We made the North Macedonians proud and happy. This is like winning the European Championship.
He got even more emotional, when he talked about his family and wife who suffered from Covid-19.
“I came here with these guys because they promised to celebrate. My wife was in the hospital, she had COVID-19 symptoms, luckily she’s better now.
“The kids were giving me support. Thank you all. What more can I say? Just to cry.”
Before concluding, he also praised his captain and his team. “Pandev is an amazing man, the leader of this team,” “They fought like lions to write the history of their state; I’m proud of these guys.”
Surely, the end of the qualifying matches got emotional and it can be seen. Germany won’t forget this devastating defeat by the North Macedonian underdogs.
