PM Imran Khan on Monday directed concerned authorities to finalize the ‘Karachi Transformation Plan’ during the current week in consultation with all stakeholders for its in-principle approval and implementation.
He was chairing a high-level meeting to address the civic problems of Karachi. Moreover, PM Imran said the government was cognizant of the sufferings of people and vowed to play its role in mitigating them.
Governor Sindh Imran Ismael, Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umar, Maritime Minister Syed Ali Zaidi (through video-link), Chairman National Disaster Management Authority Lt. Gen Muhammad Afzal, and secretaries of concerned ministers attended the meeting.
According to PM, country’s progress and development was linked with the prosperity of its economic hub Karachi.
Meanwhile, the meeting updated the prime minister about Karachi’s problems. For years the city has facing issued related to clean drinking water, sewerage, solid waste management, and transport. The PM apprised of the proposals for their permanent solution.
The Planning Ministry also showed a presentation on Karachi Transformation Plan.
“[The government] is aware of the challenges that Karachi’s residents have been facing for years. The Centre will play its role to solve Karachi’s problems and its progress.”
Protests in Karachi
The life of the citizens in Karachi has come to a standstill after the recent torrential rains. Moreover, the heavy rains have lashed the Pakistani financial capital last week, causing heavy flooding. The city looks like a pool.
Locals on Monday protested as Clifton and DHA areas are waterlogged and powerless. Even posh areas suffered immensely from this heavy monsoon rain. As a result, angry residents expressed their grief and demanded action against the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC).
The entire Karachi suffered last week when a few drops of rain showed the poor performance of political parties and officials in this city. Let’s now see when PM Imran Khan’s Karachi Transformation Plan starts working.
