The overflowing drug abuse in Pakistan is something that has been increasingly difficult to control ever since its inception. From time to time, a new drug hits the markets of the country and goes considerably ‘viral’, destroying and mentally dismantling the youth.

Crystal meth is short for crystal methamphetamine. It is just one form of the drug methamphetamine. Methamphetamine is a white crystalline drug that people take by snorting it (inhaling through the nose), smoking or injecting it with a needle. Some even take it orally, but all develop a strong desire to continue using it because the drug creates a false sense of happiness and well-being—a rush (strong feeling) of confidence, hyper activeness, and energy. One also experiences a decreased appetite. These drug effects generally last from six to eight hours but can go up to twenty-four hours.

According to a report that aired on Samaa Tv, Crystal is now the drug of choice in Karachi. Video footage aired showed how easy it is to buy Ice. The show Naya Din showed how the youth of Karachi, girls included, are hooked to the drug. The drug is openly being sold on social media and different places across the city — Khadda Market being one of the strongholds.

Ice is being sold from Rs 1200 to Rs 4000 per gram — in the shape of shining crystals or a crystal rock. It has also been said that there are open places that let you use the drug as well, with numerous guest houses serving it on their ‘menu’. The addiction is one of the most harmful ones in the world and it is a scourge that needs to be gotten rid of as soon as possible.

The videos were recovered from a person who had been arrested for extortion. According to Samaa, the culprit had over 100 suppliers of the drug; dealers who studied in different universities and worked for different organizations.

It is being learned that the educated cadre of Karachi is buying the drug more than anyone; along with them being the ones selling it as well. Concerned authorities need to take immediate steps to counter this evil before it further grips its feet in the metropolitan city of Pakistan.
