Initial Report on Wheat Import Scandal Reveals Large-Scale Corruption

The initial inquiry report points out the suspicious involvement of officials from the Pasco and Punjab food departments. With already a reserve of 40.47 lakh metric tons of wheat 35.87 lakh metric tons were imported.

An artificial shortage was brought with the selling price at Rs 4700 per maud, while the real price set was at 2600 to 2900 per maud.

Favoring the private sector the artificial shortage between December 2023 and March 2924 has resulted in a loss of Rs 1 billion to the national reserves.

As per the sources, this shortage was favored by the private sector. The full-scale inquiry report will be presented to the government later.
