According to Islam, Here is Why You Shouldn’t Keep your Friends Before your Spouse

“And one of His signs is that He has created for you, spouses from amongst yourselves so that you might take comfort in them and He has placed between you, love and mercy. In this, there is surely evidence (of the truth) for the people who carefully think.” (Surah 30, Verse 21)

Following the teachings and the examples set by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) and his companions reflects how you are as a person, as a spouse, as a family member, and as a human being. In the Holy Quran and in the Hadiths, we find examples of important aspects of life – how they should be adopted, implemented and followed.

One of the important aspects of Islam is marriage – the union of a man and a woman, the companionship between the two, followed by making a family. On the other hand, this also happens to be one of the neglected aspects of life as well. Both man and woman neglect their duties as husband and wife due to different aspects revolving in the society.

A hadith narrated by Abu Darda RA (Sahi Bukhari) where the Prophet Muhammad SAWW fostered the relationship between him and Hazrat Salman Al Farsi. Hazrat Salman noticed that the wife of Abu Darda RA wasn’t devoted to sharing a kind, lovely relationship with her husband. On this, Hazrat Salman asked the wife the reason for such an attitude, to which she shared how Abu Darda RA shows no interest in the home.

Hazrat Salman was surprised and decided to take an action on this. When Abu Darda RA was offering Sunnah (voluntary) prayer, Hazrat Salman instructed him to leave the prayer and go to sleep. Hazrat Salman did that again when Abu Darda RA woke up after sleep to offer Sunnah prayer. For the third time, he allowed Abu Darda RA to offer prayer and reminded him of his duty towards his wife.

SubhanAllah – the way to be told the importance of a husband towards his wife – something many couples today ignore.

In this Modern Era, People Waste their Time Sitting and Doing Nothing with their Friends and Ignore their Spouse

“The best among you are those who behave best toward their wives. I am the best among you toward his wives. The best among you is the one  who is the kindest to his wife and the worst among you is the one who treats his wife badly.” – Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 628 Narrated by Abu Hurayrah

Thank Allah for giving you a spouse, for people in this world, are deprived of getting the love and support of a spouse.

While Abu Darda (RA) was instructed to put a hold on the voluntary prayer, we spend hours being away from our spouse by spending useless time with friends. One needs to understand how Islam has given utmost importance to marriage, which leads to a perfect family.

May Allah bless us all, Ameen.
