Gujranwala police registered a case against an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police on the charge of raping a 23-year-old woman after a video clip went viral on social media in which she leveled allegations against the police official on Monday. However, the victim now takes back her statement of accusation.
According to the first information report (FIR) registered at the Aroop Police Statio, the father of the victim girl alleged that ASI Mubashir raped his daughter during an investigation into a quarrel case.
Later, the victim alleged the suspect had threatened her that he would implicate her. As well as her family in a fake case if she reported the matter of rape to the police authorities. In a video statement that went viral on social media, the victim also alleged police chose not to address their complaint. Neither did they take any action when the family approached the local station house officer (SHO).
Later, the city police officer (CPO) informed the media that a medical test of the woman would be carried out. In addition to this, he stated that an inquiry would be conducted on merit. And if found guilty, the ASI would be dealt with according to the law.
It is to be noted that the cop, suspected of involvement in the rape case, obtained interim bail earlier in the day to avoid arrest. Moreover, in his statement, ASI Mubashir claimed, “I have been falsely accused.” Further, added that the truth would be ascertained during the investigation.
Conflicting statements of the victim
Subsequently, a four-member team formed under the superintendent of police (SP) to probe the matter. When asked again if the ASI had sexually assaulted her, the victim retracted her statement.
While in her first video clip, she accused the ASI of rape. However, in another statement before the police, she stated that she was not assaulted. On the other hand, in her third video clip that she uploaded on social media, she alleged that the police had got the statement of their choice from her by exerting pressure on her.
In the video, you can also see her mother agreeing to her statement. Following the inquiry report, the Gujranwala police lodged an FIR against the ASI who secured the pre-arrest bail from the court.
In addition to this, the police also decided to dispatch samples of the woman and the ASI to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency for DNA analysis. Moreover, the suspect, in his statement, denied the allegations and offered to join the investigation into the case.
According to sources, the girl claims that some journalists took the money and recorded the statement. Consequently, they made the video message viral on social media.
Just when the Punjab police is in the limelight for failure to arrest one of the two prime suspects in the Lahore motorway gang-rape case, a new rape case has surfaced.
