Gaza Man Builds House with Mud, Sand, and Flour Bags

A man in Gaza, Moataz Yahya Barzak, built his own house using only mud, sand, and around 1,200 flour bags. Instead of staying in a tent after being displaced, he started building his new home on the beach in Deir Al-Balah, central Gaza. The thick walls he created will protect him from the weather, and he is planning to add a barrier to block the strong waves from the Mediterranean Sea.

Barzak has spent weeks on the house, spending about $300 on materials, including a mesh window that lets him enjoy a view of the sea.
