Fakhar Zaman Has been Replaced By Injured Usman Qadir In Pakistan’s T20 World Cup Team

After recovering from a knee injury, Fakhar Zaman has been added to Pakistan’s 15-man team for the Twenty20 World Cup. Usman Qadir is now one of three travelling reserves, along with Mohammad Haris and Shahnaz Dahani, after failing to recover from a hairline fracture on his right thumb.

Qadir received the injury when fielding Alex Hales’ catch in the fourth T20I against England in Karachi on September 25. According to a PCB report, he would not be available for selection until October 22, after which Pakistan can add him as an injury replacement to their main squad.

The initial selection of Qadir was met with scepticism, as the legspinner had played only one match in the Asia Cup and had scant experience prior to it. Prior to his injury, he had the following numbers in the three T20Is against England: 2 for 36, 0 for 41, and 2 for 48.

Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz are now the only premier spinners in Pakistan’s 15-man team, with Iftikhar Ahmed able to contribute with his offspin if necessary. Fast-bowling alternatives include Shaheen, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Wasim, and Mohammad Hasnain.

As reported by ESPNcricinfo on Tuesday, Fakhar and Shaheen Shah Afridi will join the World Cup squad in Brisbane on Saturday. Both players had been undergoing treatment and rehabilitation for knee ailments. Both will be available for Pakistan’s official warm-up games on October 17 against England and October 19 against Afghanistan.

Pakistan Squad: Babar Azam (capt), Shadab Khan (vice-capt), Asif Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shan Masood.

Mohammad Haris, Shahnawaz Dahani, and Usman Qadir have reserved travel accommodations.
