Amidst the COVID-19 global pandemic, our doctors, bound by the Hippocratic Oath, are standing in the frontline, delivering their best to protect us. With the war waging against the novel Coronavirus, these doctors have nothing to offer except bestowing the ultimate sacrifice of their blood, toil, tears, and sweat for the betterment of the people. Amongst many, a Muslim doctor shares the news of shaving his beard after 15 years, for the purpose of looking after infected patients.
Giving the ultimate sacrifice
Importantly, we reside in a society, where inadequacy of health facilities, leadership being indolent, and not hyperactive in any situation is quite banal. In circumstances like these, Dr. Faraz (Raz), amongst many, are delivering their cardinal efforts to hold the virus at bay.
Owing to his tweet, Dr.Faraz shares that he will soon be redeployed to take care of the sick. For that, he shaved his beard, in order for the surgical mask to fit him. It is important for us to realize that being a devout Muslim, it is hard to abide by the Islamic rules. For a Muslim, growing and maintaining a beard is essential, and such a sacrifice is indeed heartbreaking.
I’m being redeployed to look after #COVID19 patients very soon. To be fitted for a mask needed to shave off my beard (which, as a Muslim I’ve had for 15 years). I feel… ?

As of now, the Coronavirus outbreak has resulted in the confirmation of more than 3,000 cases, with 50 unfortunate deaths.
Pakistan loses its hero
Sadly, in this ongoing fight with COVID-19, Pakistan lost its shining star, Dr Osama, a few weeks earlier. It is said that the young doctor was amongst the medical team, responsible for screening out infected patients.
In a series of events, the doctor, mistakenly contracted the virus, which deteriorated his health to such an extent that he had to be shifted on a ventilator. Unfortunately, hours later, news reports enumerated that he breathed his last on a Friday night.
Undoubtedly, the people of Pakistan will always remember Dr. Usama and his solidifying services in the field of medics.
“Dr Usama Riaz is a national hero for his bravery against fighting Coronavirus.”
On 27th March, Punjab police gave a guard of honor to the doctors and nurses of Mayo hospital, Lahore, as a tribute to their efforts.
