This Doctor From Punjab Shares Horrific Details Of How Child Birth Takes Place In Govt. Hospitals And It’s Sick!

The condition of hospitals in Pakistan is no less than any chaos. Nowadays, private hospitals who charge a hefty amount for something minor are no less than that government hospital who doesn’t even care to sterilize their equipment before checking the patient. From the time this year started until now, several cases of doctors negligence resulted in the deaths of innocent citizens.

Earlier this year, Dar ul Sehat Hospital of Karachi was under heat because of the negligence of so-called experienced doctors. A 9-months-old baby named Nashwa died in the hospital because the doctors injected a wrong injection into her. The case made severe headlines on the media for about a month and in the end, the hospital administration, and the child’s parents came to an agreement.

Recently, a thread on Twitter angered Pakistanis and many questions were raised. A medical student witnessed the horrific treatment of government hospitals of Pakistan and shared it on her Twitter to aware others. Currently, on practice, this student was asked to observe childbirth that was due that day. As instructed, she went into the labor room and stood with the mother who was lying on the hospital bed in extreme pain. The process of giving birth can be unimaginably painful if not done with proper guidelines.

Here’s the whole story! You would need to read the full thread.

Let’s start!

According to the medical student, the labor room was dirty, stinky and the sheets were also not clean. There was no sign of the appointed doctor and the woman who may bearly be 25 was literally crying out of pain. Giving birth for the first time was terrifying the mother even more and the only moral and emotional support available at that time was me. I asked her name and her condition and I could visibly see the pain in her eyes.

The doctor who had to perform the procedure was late and nobody else came in to check on the patient. The mother was now experiencing contractions and still, the doctor hasn’t arrived. I ran out of the labor room to aware the administration about the condition and after some time the doctor along with a nurse who must be in her 50’s finally arrived, said the medical student.

Well, I was relieved that the procedure has started. The doctor at the start was cool at first and was asking the woman to push as hard as she can. The lady was investing all her power in pushing but the baby kept disappearing again and again. Eventually, the doctor lost it and started shouting on the woman and the nurse was head to head with her.

I was holding the patient’s hand to make her feel comfortable in that chaotic atmosphere. The woman was trying as hard as she could but no sign of success was seen. Suddenly, the started shouting on her saying phrases like ‘tm maa bannay ka qabil hi nai ho’ etc. I couldn’t believe what the nurse said in such condition, she stated.

Furthermore, she said, after a while, two more nurses entered the room because the case was pretty complicated. What is saw next was sheer humiliation. The doctor shouted again on the mother and asked her to push again, the mother did but it couldn’t be a success this time either. As soon as the nurse saw no signs of baby coming out she slapped the mother so hard that I was stunned. The doctor didn’t say anything as if it’s their daily routine.

After slapping patient who is already in such pain the nurse said ‘tmhain samajh nai aata kia krna hai? Hamaray paas faltu time nai hai tmharay liye’. I got so angry and asked her what is she even doing to which the nurse didn’t respond. The mother was so tired and exhausted that she whispered to me ‘aur himmat nai hai doctor sahiba, mujhse nai hoga’ and I was continuously reassuring her.

Now, the nurse had started applying a fundal pressure so that the pressure could be applied for the next contraction. As the next contraction came, the woman pushed with full force and the baby was finally delivered. After the delivery, the doctor and nurses left and the baby was handed over to the mother in a green cloth.

I stayed for the next hour with the lady and she thanked me and called me a blessing of Allah for her. I then complained to the hospital administration but no action was taken as the nurse that slapped was a ‘senior’ part of that hospital. I have never been to any other delivery room before and just want to ask one question, is this what years of practicing does?

We just hope that the hospital industry of Pakistan gets better and that these type of case doesn’t occur in the coming future.
