Sri Lanka Cricket has emphasised its “zero tolerance” stance for any such behaviour and promised to take the appropriate actions to undertake an investigation into the alleged infraction as soon as possible. According to a press release issued by Sri Lanka Cricket on Monday, the national cricket governing body will also give the Australian law enforcement authorities all the assistance needed to conduct a fair investigation into the incident.

After being accused of sexual assault during the T20 World Cup, Sri Lankan cricketer Gunathilaka was denied bail by a Sydney judge. According to a report by the news agency Reuters, Gunathilaka was able to watch the bail hearing from Sydney’s Downing Center court via a video link. Due to a hamstring injury, Gunathilaka was eliminated from the T20 World Cup in the opening round.

Following an alleged sexual assault incident in Rose Bay, Gunathilaka was detained by Sydney police on Sunday. “The guy and woman met after exchanging messages for a few days via an online dating service; it is alleged that in the evening of Wednesday, November 2, 2022, he sexually assaulted her. An property in Rose Bay was the site of a crime scene assessment yesterday as part of ongoing investigations, according to a statement from the New South Wales police. The 31-year-old has played for Sri Lanka in 8 Tests, 47 ODIs, and 46 T20 Internationals.
