Cristiano Ronaldo Faces Suspension Over Gesture in Saudi League Match

Football star Cristiano Ronaldo is set to serve a one-match suspension after an incident following Al Nassr’s 3-2 victory against Al Shabab in the Saudi league, as announced by the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee of the Saudi Football Federation (SAFF) on Wednesday.

Post the match’s conclusion on Sunday, videos circulating on social media captured Ronaldo seemingly making a provocative gesture, cupping his ear and repeatedly pumping his hand forward in front of his pelvic area, seemingly aimed at rival Al Shabab supporters. The background noise included chants of “Messi,” alluding to Ronaldo’s football rivalry with the Argentine star.

The committee decided that the Portuguese footballer would face a 10,000 Saudi riyals (,666) fine to the Saudi Football Federation and an additional 20,000 riyals to Al-Shabab to cover the costs related to the complaint filing fees. This decision is deemed final and not open to appeal. It’s not the first time Ronaldo has faced such actions, with a similar incident occurring in April last year after a league game against Al Hilal.
