The year 2020 has been a very challenging year across the globe, specifically due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year too, we have sadly said goodbye to many notable celebrities.

Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when it comes to icons and stars fans have grown to love. As a homage to these icons, we will take a look at some of the famous celebrities we bid farewell to in 2020.

1- Tariq Aziz

Legendary Pakistani TV host and film actor Tariq Aziz passed away due to cardiac arrest in Lahore on June 17, 2020. He was 84 years old. Aziz started his career from Radio Pakistan and got nationwide recognition for his work on PTV’s show Neelam Ghar. It was first aired in 1974 and later became the Tariq Aziz Show.

2- Amanullah Khan

Stand-up comedian and artist Amanullah Khan passed away in Lahore on March 6, 2020, at the age of 74. He was suffering from lung and kidney disease for quite a while now. Amanullah got the pride of performance award for his exceptional work.

3. Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim

Former chief election commissioner Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim passed away in Karachi on Jan 8, 2020. He was 91. The former judge was under treatment at home when he passed away.

4- Athar Shah Khan Jaidi

The renowned writer, playwright, and actor Athar Shah Khan who created an iconic character Jaidi which he himself played with endearing zaniness passed away here on May 10, 2020. The veteran actor was 77 and left behind his wife and four sons.

5- Sabiha Khanum

Sabiha Khanum, one of Pakistan’s foremost leading film actresses, passed away in the United States at the age of 84 on June 14, 2020. She is remembered as the ‘First Lady of Pakistan’s silver screen’. The actress was suffering from renal disease.

6. Mirza Shahi

Veteran film and TV actor Mirza Shahi died of cardiac arrest at Karachi’s Civil Hospital on September 29 at the age of 70. Shahi was a versatile actor who played a variety of roles in various films and TV dramas. His most memorable role was the character of Chacha Kamal he played in the comedy serial Nadaniyaan.

7- Maham Aftab

Former international taekwondo star Maham Aftab, who won a gold medal in a championship in Jordan, died of cancer on October 24, 2020. She was only 26. Besides winning national and international events, she also represented Pakistan in the Youth Olympics held in Indonesia.

8- Allama Zameer Akhtar Naqvi

Famous religious scholar Allama Zameer Akhtar Naqvi passed away on September 13 from a heart attack at the age of 76. Naqvi was known to have immense knowledge of science, philosophy, literature, culture, journalism, and Islamic history.

9- Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali

Former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali passed away at a hospital in Rawalpindi at the age of 76 on December 3, 2020. Jamali served as the premier of Pakistan from November 2002 until June 2004.

10- Sushant Singh

The demise of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput on June 14, 2020, by suicide, sent shock waves across Bollywood. The actor was famous for films like Kai Po Che!, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Dil Bechara, and Chhichhore. Sushant, 34, was found hanging at his Bandra home.

11- Irrfan Khan

Bollywood superstar Irrfan Khan passed away on April 29, 2020, after a prolonged illness. The actor was suffering from a rare form of cancer. He was admitted to a Mumbai hospital with a colon infection. The actor was famous for his performance in Maqbool and Piku. His films Slumdog Millionaire, Inferno, and Life of Pi gave him global recognition.

12- Rishi Kapoor

Another veteran Bollywood actor that lost his life this year was Rishi Kapoor. He passed away in Mumbai on 30th April 2020 at 67. The veteran actor was suffering from cancer. He gave superhits like Bobby, Hum Tum, 102 Not Out, Kapoor & Sons, and Karz in Bollywood.

13- Chadwick Boseman

American film star Chadwick Boseman, an actor whose work celebrated African-American pioneers and culture passed away on August 28, 2020, at age 43. He was battling colon cancer for four years. He was famous for playing the role of Black Panther.

14- Kobe Bryant

Legendary National Basketball Association (NBA) player Kobe Bryant passed away on January 26, 2020, in a helicopter crash. He was traveling in his private helicopter over California.

Unfortunately, in the incident, Bryant with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others lost their lives.
