Blast in Charsadda Court

An explosion in a local court in Shabqadar of Charsadda District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa killed 8 people and injured 14, including 2 police men.

In what is confirmed to have been a suicide attack by RPO Mardan*,  the blast occurred near the premises of the district court, where eye witness have reported seeing the suicide bomber detonate the bomb upon open fire by the police.

The District Police Officer (DPO) Sohail Khalid informed Dawn News* that it was a suicide attack. The Jamatul Ahrar, a group from the primary Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), have taken responsibility for the attack in an email sent to journalists. The attack was carried out as a reactionary response to avenge the hanging of Mumtaz Qadri, who killed former Punjab Governor Salman Taseer. The bomber was attempting to enter the court compound when security personnel at the entrance stopped him.

The security forces and emergency teams have cordoned off the area, and the injured have been shifted to the hospital, where the administration have started receiving bodies.

The District Inspector General (DIG) spoke to media saying that the security for court was the proper time of the blast and 18 police officers were deployed for security. Stay tuned for more updates on the blast.
