BCCI Refuse To Wear Indian Jersey With Pakistan Name On It

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is embroiled in controversy, with India reportedly objecting to having “Pakistan,” the designated host nation, printed on its jerseys. The tournament is set to take place in Pakistan and Dubai, with India’s matches scheduled in Dubai. However, Pakistan remains the official host. Tensions escalated after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) adopted a hybrid hosting model, following the BCCI’s refusal to send its team to Pakistan. The latest objection over the host nation’s name on the jerseys has added to the ongoing discord.

PCB Accuses BCCI of Politicizing Cricket

In an interview with news agency IANS, a PCB official criticized the BCCI’s opposition to including Pakistan’s name on the jerseys, calling it an attempt to “inject politics into cricket.” The official also highlighted earlier reports that the BCCI had declined to send Indian captain Rohit Sharma to Pakistan for the captains’ meeting, a significant event ahead of the tournament.

“The BCCI is injecting politics into cricket, which undermines the integrity of the sport. They initially refused to travel to Pakistan, and now they’re reluctant to send their captain for the opening ceremony. Reports suggest they are opposing the inclusion of the host nation’s name on their jerseys,” the PCB official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. The official urged the ICC to intervene and ensure fair treatment for Pakistan.

BCCI Stands Firm on Its Position

Despite mounting pressure from the PCB, the BCCI has not shifted its stance. Its refusal to travel to Pakistan prompted the implementation of the hybrid model, under which all Indian fixtures will be held in Dubai while Pakistan retains its official hosting rights. The revised arrangement also bars Pakistan from sending its team to India for future ICC events, further complicating relations between the boards.

Growing Tensions Ahead of the Tournament

As the Champions Trophy approaches, the jersey controversy has deepened the rift between the two cricketing nations. With the tournament just weeks away, the ICC faces increasing pressure to address the matter. The dispute threatens to overshadow the event, with observers keenly watching how the governing body will handle this escalating issue.
