A woman can never escape the gaze of society in a patriarchal society and all of her decisions including the way she dresses are constantly judged, and celebrities get even more exposure because of their public profile. The success they have comes at a price.
RJ and actor Anoushey Ashraf held a mini Q&A session on Instagram for fans and responding to one fan’s question about ‘bold’ dressing and trolls, Ashraf said she does not really care what they think because she believes they are projecting their own misery on the internet.
When asked if Ashraf has any regrets about dressing ‘boldly’ due to comments by haters, the actor replied that boldness is subjective. What is bold to one person is perfectly fine for another.
“Someone thinks showing your arms is bold, others think wearing a skirt is bold, and there are some who even say showing your face is bold. What is bold except a perception in one’s head?” she asked. The RJ said though it is fine to draw a line in terms of what we view as bold or vulgar, it is definitely not okay to hate or troll another for it.
Ashraf added that social media trolls are not to be taken seriously because it is not about the person they are commenting on at all. However, it is more their internal frustration that they are projecting onto someone else.
“It is not about the bold dress any longer, it is about the frustration and anger in the person writing messages of hate to make you feel bad. How can one be upset at such a person who is already at such a low place in their life?”

The actor said that she has better things to occupy her attention and trolls do not concern her. “In my world, trolls are the least of my worries, Allah ka shukar hai [thank God]!”
It should be noted that women are not decor pieces or objects that people can look at and pass their unasked for opinions about. Instead, they are people with the right to decide how to live their lives and what to wear, but that should not be grounds for people to comment and hate on them.
Ashraf previously also shared how a social media man harassed her online by sending her indecent DMs. It happens far too often, she said. While naming and shaming the harasser, the renowned artist posted the indecent message alongside the user’s profile. Prior to that, the artist also revealed that regardless of being fully covered, a man harassed her in a market.
