When you sling hate and abuse towards children you know that there is something seriously wrong with the mindset of American school system. The second of a child being prosecuted by a teacher because of his religion has recently sprung up on social media in a short span of time.
14-year-old Ahmed Mohamed
The first case of 14-year-old Ahmed Mohamed, took place in Irving Texas in September of 2015. He was prosecuted by a teacher because she believed that the homemade clock he had made for science class was actually an explosive device. The situation escalated so far as to Ahmed being escorted from the school in handcuffs.
This new case is of a 12–year-old Waleed Abushaaban, who was called a terrorist by his teacher in front of the entire class. While watching a movie and laughing his teacher said, “I wouldn’t be laughing if I was you.” When Ahmed asked why? The teachers response was shocking said, “because we all think you’re a terrorist.”
The English and Language Arts teacher was put on paid leave however the pupil’s family are asking for the teacher to be fired and for the school to provide religious sensitivity training for pupils and teachers. The teacher who made the comment has argued that she did so to “make a point about negative stereotypes”.
However, the District officials do not believe that the teacher exercised the appropriate sensitivity expected of the District’s educators, and do not believe that the statements were made in a manner that fits the District’s core Beliefs and commitments.
Waleed, also added that following the teacher’s comments a few students also hurled bigoted comments at the young boy. Such as “I see a bomb!” and other cynical comments that were racially motivated. Waleed’s father Malek, told the press that his son has been raised to be an American and that “is all he knows”. “Just because my son is a Muslim does not mean he is a terrorist,” he exclaimed. With this type of hate being flung on a daily basis by someone as influential as the leading presidential candidate, what else can one expect from the mind.
